About
Soaring Eagles Outreach, a 501-C3 non-profit, was established by commercial pilot Candace Covington in 2007. Based in Carlsbad, Calif., Soaring Eagles teaches at-risk youth the value of hard work through one on one mentorships and hands-on experiences in the commercial and private aviation industries. The youth are taught a level of dedication, values and responsibility they might not otherwise have in their lives.
Through partnerships with the local aviation community, the teens participate in a series of daylong aviation-related activities including ground school, behind the scenes field trips, and hands-on experiences, including an ultimate opportunity to take the controls of a single-engine, four-seat aircraft such as a Cessna 172.
The organization works closely with counselors responsible for the at-risk 14 to 19 year old girls and boys. Youth learn the importance of structure, positive reinforcement, and accountability, resulting in a greater awareness of their own potential and the realization that this and many other opportunities are within their reach.
